Structural Editing that Elevates Story

Developmental editing is at the heart of our editorial work. We work with narrative nonfiction and nonfiction authors who have completed a full draft and are ready to step back and assess how the manuscript functions as a cohesive whole before moving into line-level polish.

At this stage, we focus on structure, style, and the reader’s experience. In nonfiction projects especially, we pay close attention to how ideas and narrative threads unfold across chapters, and how structural and stylistic choices support the author’s voice and purpose. We provide clear, detailed feedback that highlights strengths and offers direction for revisions that will help the book fully realize its potential.

This Work May Include

  • Evaluating overall structure and organization

  • Assessing pacing, voice, and narrative momentum

  • Examining how story, research, and analysis interact

  • Clarifying core ideas, themes, and through-lines

  • Identifying gaps, redundancies, or structural issues

  • Providing guidance on revision priorities and next steps

Editing projects are quoted based on manuscript length and complexity. All projects begin with a free consultation to discuss your manuscript, goals, and timeline, and to determine whether developmental editing is the right fit for your book.
